A Phenomenological Study of the Language Ideology, Language Management, and Language Practice in English-Medium Universities in Bangladesh: Lecturers’ and Students’ Voices

English Medium Instruction (EMI) is a commonly observed phenomenon in higher education (HE) the countries where mandated as second or foreign language. The globally conducted studies reported prospect, practice, problems, and eventualities of EMI HE. Numbering around 105, private universities Bangladesh also adopted EMI. Being guided by Cooper (1989) Spolsky (2009), this phenomenological study explored language ideology lecturers students regarding benefits EMI, their remarks about management to achieve compatibility for adopting opinion concerning implementation (language practice) classrooms Bangladesh. We collected from eight participants (four four lecturers) who responded semi-structured interviews classroom observations. findings suggested does not observe full-fledged practice classrooms, struggle impart receive knowledge due limited proficiency language, although they did deny benefit produce efficient workforces empowered with proficiency. This paper bilingual curriculum which instruction delivered Bangla imparting great deal students. In national language-in-education policy, Cognitive Communicative Academic Language Proficiency (CALP) should be prioritized over Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) Learning Approach (CALLA) enrich acquisition.
